She Was Ready So Why Wait?

My littlest angel, Miranda started preschool this month.  At the tender age of three she just had her first spring break and cannot wait to get back to her new school tomorrow to see her teachers and friends. 

Why would I send my little girl, who only turned three years old at the end of December, to start school in the middle of the school year?  Due to the birthday cut-off by the state, at the start of the next school year she won't even be in class with the same children she's meeting now. And she'll have the same curriculum again next year.  There's only a few months left of the school year.  So why not just wait?

Because she was ready.

I won't hold my kids back for any reason if I see they are developmentally ready to do something.  The school was willing to accept her as long as I understood the facts.  She wanted to be in school and she really is ready for it.  How could I stop her?

Ask yourself: what are you ready for in your business?  And are you stopping yourself because of things outside of your control?  Miranda doesn't care that she'll have to make all new friends in another few months (in fact she'll enjoy it).  She won't remember or care if she hears the same Bible stories or does the same craft next spring.  What she does care about is being given the chance to spread her wings and do what she is ready to do.  She loves learning and was ready for a structured environment.  And all those outside things don't matter a hill of beans. 

How will you spread your wings?  Yes, you're busy.  You will always be.  Yes, there will always be more to learn.  Yes, it can be scary to jump in (Well not for Miranda it wasn't.  On her first day in her new school I walked her to her classroom and after about 3 minutes she said, "Ok, Mom, now you go home.  I play with my friends.  See you later!").   

Take that first step.  And make it a giant leap.  Stop holding yourself back and get going for goodness sakes!  You may be as happy and surprised at what happens as my Miranda was when she saw that fun classroom for the first time.      

Earth Hour TONIGHT! 8-9 PM Your Time Zone

Tonight's the night!

A few weeks ago I heard about a stand millions of people in cities around the world will be taking to show the tremendous difference we can make in the earth and environment if we all pay more attention and take action.

Earth Hour was developed by the World Wildlife Fund in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and it had such a great effect, they decided to bring the rest of the world in as partners this year.

What you should do: Turn off all non-essential lights and electric items from 8-9 PM at your home.  No matter what time zone you're in, you can participate in Earth Hour.  Tell your friends and neighbors to shut off their lights, too.  And we'll see what a huge difference we can make if everyone does something small.

What will you do instead?  Pull out the candles and have some romance!  Or plan a fun night with the kids and play cards or board games by candlelight or oil lamps like in pioneer days.  Or sit around and tell stories.  Or go to bed early for once.  Be creative-- it's only an hour!

Post here some of your ideas about what you'll be doing.  Tonight is my husband's birthday.  We're going out for a late afternoon movie and will come home for a quiet celebration-- just the two of us, while our kids are sleeping over at my parents' house.

Make That Top 5!

I recently wrote about breaking into the Top 10 author list of www.EzineArticles.com for the public speaking category.

Well, this week, I made top 5.  Woo-hoo!

Even with the flu rampaging its way throughout every member of my household last week, I managed to get a few more articles written and submitted before I succumbed to the virus.  That's what pushed me into the top 5.

I submitted another article today and began my next article this afternoon.  By the end of the week, I will have reached another article-writing milestone: having 50 live articles up at EZA.

As a direct result, my subscriber list is nearing 1000-- the "magic number" of Internet marketing success (although I've been seeing lots of success long before hitting that number!).

Another Mini-Milestone Today: 800!

For those of you who have been following the bouncing ball of my business over the past couple of years (has it been that long?), today I reached the next milestone: 800 subscribers to my business owners list!  Wooo-hooo!

I began building this list in earnest one year ago this month.  Then over the summer I picked up steam when I revamped my website to reflect the new business-related focus of what I offer. 

To some 800 is a big number of subscribers-- that would be to anyone who has less than 800 *smile.*    To others 800 is sub-tiny-- one Internet marketer I was recently reading said he has a "tiny" subscriber list of 8,000 (oh to be so tiny!). 

For me that number represents people.  800 people have asked to know more about what I do and how I can help them better develop their communication skills to get more business, more clients and more cash flow.  It's exciting to know that people from 23 countries around the world are interested in my products and services to help them get the results they want.  Exciting!

And by the way-- most "experts" say you need a list of at least 1000 before you can really start to make money on the Internet.  To that I say, "HA!  Don't you believe it."  I've been making a nice living for me & my family for the past several months -- at considerably fewer than 1000 leads.  How?  By having a highly responsive, highly targeted, high-quality list of subscribers.  How do they get to be such high quality?  Because they "meet" me through some of the most highly credible methods available today: public speaking and article marketing.
